I’ve been interested in exploring the effects of music, salience, and risk on drinking behavior. Starting with my work in the Institute for Communication Research under Rob Potter, I designed, collected and coded data for an electrophysiology experiment surrounding the salience of party music. I then began working with Tom James on an experiment testing image salience of party cues. The preliminary results find that drinking history is positively correlated with a decision to drink while sober. We also find that image salience interacts with risky context. In the future I am pursuing a career as a Physician’s Assistant, and feel that the process of interacting with subjects and interpreting data will be directly applicable to my new career.
